An artist for over 40 years, Jim Harper works in a variety of media, including metals, wood, glass, and stone. His work includes both functional and non-functional pieces in both two and three dimensions.
Jim has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Arts: Metalwork & Jewelry from Northern Illinois University, and a Master of Arts degree in Fine Arts: Sculpture from Governors State University (IL). He also holds a Associate in Applied Science degree in Data Processing from Tompkins Cortland Community College, and has completed several years of post-graduate study in the field of Education at Cornell University.
He started Jim Harper Designs in 1980. Besides the fine art produced, the firm has served as a graphic design and marketing services resource for clients in New York State and beyond.
In addtion to teaching metalsmithing, he has worked in several advertising agencies over the years, as well as at Cornell University, in their Information Technologies division.
Born and raised in the Chicago area, Jim moved to Ithaca, New York in 1978. He has three children. He is listed in Who's Who in America.
